Week 2 Top 10

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Massaponax Panthers (1-1)

After a terrific opening week road win over Independence the Panthers struggled to get things going offensively in their home opener as they fell to Glen Allen. Things won't get much easier this week as the new look Louisa Lions will come to town.

9. Courtland Cougars (1-1)

Courtland put up a great fight last weekend falling just short to Louisa 30-27 on the road. They have a great opportunity to get to 2-1 in their season opener against a really young North Stafford team.

8. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (1-1)

The Black Hawks bounced back in a big way this weekend with a 58-7 win over a usually tough Spotsy team. Spotsy may not be the class of 540 football however Brooke showed they have the ability to put up points in a hurry as well as play good defense, we still see this team as one to watch.

7.  Louisa Lions (2-0)

The Lions secured a big win last week inching out a win over Courtland at home 30-27. The new faces that we mentioned last week will have to continue to step up for the Lions a trip to Massaponax will give the team one last out of district test.

6. Eastern View Cyclones (2-0)

Not much to be picky about when you win 76-6... Simply put through 2 games it's very possible that we have underestimated this team, if the Cyclones can continue this level of play it could make the Battlefield district a very fun one to watch this year, they have a bye before they have a shot to avenge a non district loss a a year ago.

5. Mountain View Wildcats (2-0)

After a slow start that included the Wildcats giving away 2 fumbles on their first 2 drives and the Wildcats falling behind 6-0, Mountain View soon got their minds right and then blew the doors open and rolled to a 49-12 victory over visiting Woodgrove. Wildcats QB Aaron Barber and RB Torie Martin have done a well enough job in their replacement roles as Barber has thrown for 5 TDs through 2 games and Martin had his second 100+ yard performance. They have an early bye this week before welcoming Centreville next Thursday

4. Riverbend Bears (2-0)

The scoreboard may not say it but through nearly 3 quarters the Bears were in a highly contested match-up on Friday night. For about 10 seconds of game time Riverbend and Forest Park were tied up 15-15 in the third quarter, and then Freshman Camden Simmons housed a kick return and the Bruins were never able to recover as Amir Mateo and Jordyn Thomas made huge plays to put the game on ice in the fourth quarter as the Bears rolled to a 43-15 win. They will need to perform better in the first 3 quarters this week if they hope to beat King George.

3. Kettle Run Cougars (1-0)

The Cougars are coming off an early season bye and will take a trip to Winchester this Saturday to play against Handley at the Handley Bowl.

2. Colonial Forge Eagles (2-0)

The Eagles seem like they will be able to run the ball nearly at will against teams that are not able to line up with them physically. Last Thursday players like Josiah Bryson and Jaevyen Peterson were really all the Eagles needed in order to route Alexandria City on the road and now this week they play a Potomac team that has surrendered 56 points in each of their first 2 games.

1. King George Foxes (2-0)

King George welcomed the Crabbers from Hampton into the Foxes Den and then blew them out in similar fashion to what they did the week prior. This Foxes team has all the makings and parts that it takes to be a state title contender in Class 4 football. They will have another opportunity to prove that this weekend against #4 Riverbend.
