Week 5 Top 10

Week 4 is no more! Had some upsets last weekend but for the most part our best teams dominated! See how the top ten shakes out!

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Massaponax Panthers (1-2)

Not only was Friday nights loss surprising, it was pretty brutal as far as the big picture goes for Massaponax. They sit at 1-2, and they haven't even played other top 10 teams like King George, Mountain View, Forge, or Riverbend yet. They will likely need to win 2 or 3 of those games to make the postseason, their first opportunity comes at home this Friday against Mountain View.

9. Stafford Indians (3-1)

I must admit I'm not 100% sure about how good this Indian squad is. What I do know is 2 things however; 1. They're far better than they were a season ago. 2. Their games are unexpectedly entertaining. This is a team that has scored 7 points in a game and has been shutout in a game. But this is also a team that has gone on the road and put up 35 and 44 points in two separate games. Last week's win ahead of district play was pretty huge for a program that hasn't beaten a Commonwealth district team since 2019. However the gauntlet starts Friday with a home game against Colonial Forge. The real tests begin now.

8. Eastern View Cyclones (3-1)

Well that was unexpected. Going into last Friday nights match-up Eastern View and Brooke Point looked like two programs going two different directions. 48 minutes of play later the Cyclones were no longer undefeated as they took a tough 28-6 loss. Good news is their goals are still in front of them and they will have a chance to bounce back this Friday against the Chargers.

7.  Orange County Hornets (4-0)

To most a win over a struggling winless program may not seem like a huge deal. However for a program that has clinched its best 4 game start since 2006? It has to be somewhat of a big deal. The Hornets offense has looked as lethal as anyone's in the area at times this season. But we will find out just how far that can carry them over their next 2 games against defending Jefferson District Champion Albemarle, and Jefferson District power Louisa.

6. Riverbend Bears (3-1)

Other than an abysmal performance against what is likely a 6A title contender, Riverbend has looked dominant in non-district play. They will face a young North Stafford team this Friday.

5. Colonial Forge Eagles (1-2)

Normally when you lose you fall down the Top 10. We're going to give the Eagles a pass this week. Stone Bridge is not your average opponent. Colonial Forge had real opportunities to win on Friday going up on the Bulldogs 14-6 at one point before falling 20-14. Still some things to tighten up, we will see how they look on the road against a new feel Stafford team.

4. Kettle Run Cougars (4-0)

The Cougars continue to pass every test in front of them with flying colors. New stars like Abram Chumley (QB) are starting to gain confidence at the right time as the Cougars will begin their district title defense this Friday at James Wood.

3. Louisa Lions (4-0)

Louisa absolutely blew by Fluvanna this past weekend. They likely won't be tested in their schedule until they play Orange on October 7th.

2. King George Foxes (2-0)

An absolute dominant performance by the Foxes against Westmoreland. Good start for a team who likely won't be firmly tested in their next 3 games.

1. Mountain View Wildcats (4-0)

Mountain View rolled the Yellow Jackets on the road 62-0 scoring the first 48 in the first half. They've shut out 3 opponents in a row, we'll see if they can find a way to do it again against Ponax's notorious triple option.
