Week 8 Preview

Week 8 is here and this is a make or break weekend for several teams in the area. One of those teams won't even play until Monday. After their program had a Covid outbreak North Stafford had to forfeit their game against Colonial Forge and are now sitting at 2-4 putting a devastating blow on their playoff chances. They will likely need to win out and finish 5-4 to make the playoffs, which won't be an easy task with Brooke Point and Mountain View on schedule. On a less stressful side of things it has been a fun year tracking the stat leaders in the area, players like bruising RB Malachi Terrell, QBs Jackson Sigler and Tanner Triplett and RB Daniel Coles are the first to come to mind. The best part about those names showing out? All of them will be back next season. This page was created to put a spotlight on the talent in this area, and when you have players as good as them in the area, it makes the job easy.

Where I was right:

I've been... really good in my "intriguing match-ups" picks this season. It's almost like I know what I'm talking about, who knows. Last week I picked 2 mini upsets picking Massaponax and Culpeper to win in their games. Improving my predictions record to 9-1 so far this season on intriguing match-ups

Where I was wrong:

Well as good as I've been with my Intriguing Match-ups I've struggled a little with my Locks of the week. But I couldn't be more happy for James Monroe. As a person that did not go to JM I have always rooted for the Yellow Jackets and saw it sad to see their program struggle the way they have the past few years, hoping that last Friday can be the start of a turnaround for the lone Fredericksburg City team.

LOCKS OF THE WEEK

No locks of the week this week, several toss ups which is why we have THREE intriguing match-ups this week

INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

#5 Massaponax (2-1) at #8 Brooke Point (3-2)

Riverbend at Massaponax football

I believe it's no longer a question if Ponax is still a top ten team. By the way do they still run the Triple Option down there? I mean obviously they do but Kimble has been the one that has really carried the load so far for the Panthers which will only benefit Ponax as teams will try to hone in on him which create opportunities for Carroll, and Spencer. The Panthers have to feel good coming off their huge 34-28 win over the Bears which has boosted the Panthers into the playoff picture. But the Black-Hawks are also feeling great after absolutely steam rolling the Stafford Indians last week 56-0. Noah Sanders and Daniel Coles is as dangerous of a duo that this area has as Sanders already has plenty of D-1 offers and I would expect some to come rolling in for Coles soon. This game will be another hard fought in the trenches battle whoever is toughest will come out on top.

Prediction: Massaponax 35 Brooke Point 20

#7 Chancellor (2-1) at #2 King George (5-0)

High school football: Whiting, King George edge Chancellor in long-awaited opener | High School | fredericksburg.com

Man what an interesting game this one should be. The Foxes have only played 4 and a half games (Their first games vs Lafayette was suspended at 14-14). Yet they have dominated in every game played. Zach Ferguson has fit in like a glove as the new QB in this offense and they are even more balanced than they were a season ago. A scary thought, this team could be BETTER than they were a season ago. If that's the case they will make life difficult for a Chancellor team that has won two straight and is finding its groove. Let me be clear though, do not expect the Chargers to roll over here. As stated before the Chargers are finding their groove and have defeated two Battlefield district contenders this season in Eastern View and Spotsylvania.

Prediction: Chancellor 17 King George 37

#9 Colonial Forge (3-3) at #1 Mountain View (6-0)

High school football, Region 5D: After early shootout, Mountain View pulls away from Stafford to advance | Sports News | fredericksburg.com

No way was I going to leave this game off. If this was any other year this is the no doubter game of the week. But if you believe that this isn't the game of the week this week just because Forge is 3-3 instead of 5-1 or 6-0 like normal, you're sadly mistaken. Expect this game to be absolutely packed, the atmosphere this this game will have alone excites me. Now lets talk about the actual game. This game is a lot more evenly matched than what the records show. Forge has played the tougher schedule I don't think there is a question about that. Nolan McConnell and VJ Byrd are both huge lineman that will look to open open holes against a MV defense that has made it hard for teams to score all season. If Forge can find a way to find more success in the air this season they could beat anyone in the area. Mountain View has seen teams stack the box on them the past 2 seasons. Last season they struggled to make teams pay for it. This fall however, Jackson Sigler has aired teams out to a tune of 16 TDs in the air. Weapons like Jaiden Fair, Collin Carroll, and Jordan Jackson have made teams pay for not respecting their passing ability. Ike Daniels has been explosive both on the ground and as a Receiver which has made it difficult for teams to pinpoint on one factor of the Wildcats offense. Don't expect the Eagles to be intimidated though Forge has won the last 5 games and have only lost to Mountain View 3 times in their history.
