Week 10 Top Ten Rankings

Week 9 is in the rear-view mirror and now we'll look back and see who the ten best teams are across the Fredericksburg area.

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (3-4)

Brooke has had better knights than Friday night. Their offense never seemed to be able to get going Friday night struggling to maintain a drive. Their defense held up pretty well in the first half only giving up 14 points until the last 10 seconds when Mountain View executed a hook and ladder which put the Wildcats up 12 at the half. The play seemed to break the Black-Hawks spirit as Mountain View pulled away in the second half and Brooke Point fell 41-16. It happens the Wildcats are ranked number 1 for a reason. The Black Hawks MUST win out though, and that task won't be easy with Colonial Forge and North Stafford ahead

9. Spotsylvania Knights (5-3)

I must admit this is a team that I probably haven't been showing enough respect to. And for that I apologize, the knights have clearly shown over the last 3 years that they are a team that commands respect and is a top ten team in this area. The Knights had three players hit the century mark in rushing on Friday night as they cruised against James Monroe. I had my questions after their loss to Culpeper this season, but these past two weeks have made me a believer again.

8. Chancellor Chargers (3-2)

Chancellor got a much needed win for their playoff position on Friday night as they cruised over the Caroline Cavaliers. They will need the momentum to carry them to finish strong as they close out the season with Culpeper and James Monroe.

7. North Stafford Wolverines (3-4)

A extra week to prepare for the number one team in the area is never a bad thing. The Wolverines have had the chance to fix any kinks and make a last chance run at a playoff spot in region 5D. If they win out they should be fine, but a loss in any of their last 2 games will cause them to watch the playoffs from the stands. Something that should add some fuel to their rivalry game on Friday night.

6. Riverbend Bears (6-2)

Riverbend showed a lot of grit in their win on Friday night. Refusing to fold defensively it was the defense that eventually made the big time to play that led to the Go-Ahead score. If my calculations are in fact correct at the moment that win has the Bears in position to play a home playoff game. If they can win out they'll have even more they can accomplish.

5. Massaponax Panthers (4-1)

For the first time since their North Stafford win the Panthers had a stress free night. Dominating the Stafford Indians from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. The Panthers plan on closing their season out with Forge on the 5th, And could potentially make up their game vs Chancellor and finish their game against Woodbridge. Everything is still in play for the Panthers and as this team warms up it would surprise no one to see them make it as far as they did a season ago.

4. Louisa Lions (7-1)

This was a good week for the Lions to have a bye week. They'll close their season with two playoff quality teams in Albemarle and Goochland.

3. Kettle Run Cougars (8-1)

Another week, and another win for the Cougars, this time over the previously undefeated Handley Judges. I hope you've been paying attention to these guys, they probably aren't the closest team to you but they can compete with any team that is on this list.

2. King George Foxes (7-0)

That will probably be the last time I put the Foxes on upset alert at least this season. I must say I didn't look to crazy after the first quarter when it was zero and the Cyclones were making them work for it. But even when I put them on upset alert I expected the Foxes to win by a few scores. This very well could be a better team than last season. Their defense has been amazing, they are more balanced but can still make you pay from the air with their WR's their games against Spotsy and Courtland are far from tune up games though as they will need to keep their intensity about them so they can enter the playoffs with momentum

1. Mountain View Wildcats (8-0)

Yeah man, this is a hard team to beat. Good teams have 1 or 2 great players that teams try to prepare for but just can't stop. Great teams are the teams that have players all over the field that can make you pay. When you watch the Wildcats play that's exactly what you see. Players from both sides of the ball making plays. I could sit here and type out all the names that had impact plays from their win on Friday but that would make this too long. If you want to beat the Wildcats you're going to have to stop game planning for one or two players, and come with a scheme that may slow down their TEAM. If This Wildcats team wants to finish undefeated however, they won't be able to sleep walk with 2 top ten teams remaining on their schedule.
