Week 7 Top 10

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Orange County Hornets (4-2)

After a rough showing in their season opener the Hornets have fought their way back in the top 10. The Hornets have quietly put together some solid defensive performances

9. Courtland Cougars (3-2)

For the second time this season, Courtland played on the road against one of this area's best and took the game all the way down to the wire. This Cougars team plays stingy defense and tries to control the clock, when looking at the remainder of their schedule the Cougars have a real shot at 7-8 wins and a playoff birth for the first time since 2018

8. Riverbend Bears (2-3)

There aren't too many 2-3 teams in the state that are as good as Riverbend. Last Friday night the Bears were driving deep in Mountain View territory with an opportunity to win the game after Amir Mateo made one of the more clutch plays a Receiver could make on 4th and long, unfortunately the Bears saw the game slip away after the Wildcats hopped on a fumble, if the Bears can get to 7-3 or 6-4 they have a chance to still get a bye in the first round of the Region 5D playoffs

7. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (4-2)

If you're looking for excitement and crazy endings just go to a Brooke Point game. For the 3rd week in a row the Black Hawks found themselves in a heated contest and this time it took a last minute touchdown pass to lift the Black-Hawks over a scrappy Stafford squad. Forge, MV, and Riverbend deservedly get a lot of attention but the Black-Hawks sit at 4-2 with a huge opportunity coming to prove they are the same level as those teams.

6. Louisa Lions (4-1)

Louisa's defense came through for the Lions last weekend and the Lions now sit a 4-1 with a big district match-up with Orange now on the horizon.

5. Eastern View Cyclones (5-0)

The Cyclones rolled over winless North Stafford, and now will turn their attention to the rest of their district schedule with match-ups like Courtland and King George will determine their seeding in the competive 4B region.

4. Mountain View Wildcats (5-0)

Mountain View got their first real test of the season on Friday night when they traveled to take on Riverbend and did just enough to pull out what is a huge victory that will likely be even bigger later on in the regular season. The Wildcats won't have the luxury of breathing a sigh of relief as the next challenge will likely be just as hard as the last.

3. Colonial Forge Eagles (6-0)

The Eagles had a hard time getting off the field against Massaponax and had to fight off the Panthers and hang on for a 14-7 win. The Eagles can expect another tight match-up this weekend when undefeated Mountain View comes rolling in Friday night

2. Kettle Run Cougars (5-0)

The Cougars were challenged early and often by a strong and well coached Millbrook team but in the end "Found a Way" to defeat the Pioneers and get themselves to 5-0. A match-up with Brentsville District awaits them at the end of the season, but until then expect the Cougars to keep rolling

1. King George Foxes (5-0)

The Foxes were finally tested in a close game with Courtland that will probably make this team better once November rolls around. Eastern View in 2 weeks, until then we'll expect the Foxes continue putting on a show. They have now won 34 straight regular season games and have dominated their district winning 24 straight.
