540 Preview Week 10

Week 10 is tonight and many playoff bound teams are trying to get their teams ready for a deep run at a title. While others are looking to play spoiler and end their season on a high note! Let's take a look at the match-ups!

       INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

   Brooke Point (4-5) at #8 Riverbend (4-4)

Both of these teams come into this one with plenty on the line in regards to playoff hopes. For Brooke Point the Black Hawks once sat at 4-2 and were in pretty good shape to earn a playoff bid. Unfortunately for them a stretch of Massaponax, Mountain View, and Colonial Forge handed them 3 straight losses and now they sit outside of the Top 8 of Region 6B. A win tonight doesn't guarantee that the Black-Hawks will secure a bid in the playoffs but a loss all but guarantees they'll miss the postseason. As for Riverbend the Bears have a little bit more control of their own destiny that their opponents tonight. Sitting as the 4 seed in a region that only takes 6 teams the Bears can lock up the 3 seed if they win out. For Brooke Point Daniel Coles has been the consistent workhorse that the Black-Hawks have needed all year to make plays for this offense. Gabe Dombek has performed on a high level as QB and is currently top 5 in passing yards in the area. The defense has struggled recently as they've given up more than 30 points in 5 out of their last 6 games. Riverbend comes into this on 4-4 a record that is perfect in describing the roller coaster of a season that the Bears have had. Riverbend has 2 tough district losses to Mountain View and Colonial Forge. In their loss against the Eagles they struggled to stop the run as Josiah Bryson ran through the Bears defense on his way to 5 Touchdowns. Now while Coles won't be running behind the same Offensive line that Forge has, you have to imagine that Riverbend spent some extra time improving their focus in the run game.

Score Prediction
Brooke Point 20  Riverbend 34

Albemarle (4-4) at #6 Louisa (7-1)

On the surface this game may not seem crazy intriguing due to the difference in these teams records and the general history of Louisa dominating the Jefferson District. But a closer look reveals a dangerous Albemarle team going up against a surging Louisa team who has found their identity. A quick refresher for our fans who may have forgotten about Albemarle. 2 years ago the Patriots stunned Louisa in a dominant fashion winning 23-7 and winning a share of the Jefferson district. Last season the Lions got their revenge lighting up the scoreboard with 69 points but Albemarle got their licks in during the 69-34 loss. This Albemarle team has also matched up against Riverbend in the 2021 playoffs and Mountain View in the 2022 and gave both teams good fights. For the Patriots names like Amaje Parker and Noah Grevious are the X factors for Albemarle tonight, explosive plays have helped the Patriots win 4 out of their last 5 games, their only loss in that span was a 37-36 heart breaker against a much improved Monticello team. As for Louisa the Lions have done what Louisa does best and that's run the football. (RB) Jayden Seaberry currently leads the area in rushing yards with 1,048 yards up to this point. The Lions have been a little under the radar this season, which is rare for a team that has had as much success as Louisa has had the last 10 years. But the Lions are currently the 3 seed in the 5C region and if they win their last 2 games they will guarantee themselves a home playoff game.
