540 Week 6 Preview

Week 6 is here and with that it's almost that time to talk about the heavy topics like the playoffs... So many young names are starting to make plays for their teams! We have already hit the mid way point so please GET OUT AND WATCH THESE GAMES!

       INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

   Millbrook (4-0) at #3 Kettle Run (4-0)

Kettle Run comes into this match-up as confident as any team in the area is as of right now. After having to replace great to remarkable players like Abram Chumley, and Jordan Tapscott. The Cougars are once again rolling and have put up 50+ points in their last 3 games this season. For Kettle Run the strategy seems to be the same, get the ball in hands of the many playmakers they have. This year some of those names have changed while others have returned. Jake Mulhern has formed his connection with his favorite receiver which appears to be Sam Rogers on gameday. On the ground Colton Quaker has taken the reigns and been hard for opposing offenses to bring down. The Cougars have been impossible to stop on offense which leads teams to reach and take more risks which give players like Mason Hodge chances to make big plays. Their opponent is a program from Winchester that in the middle of last season learned how to not just win but win big games like tonight's. After falling to 1-4 at midway point last season only one team has beaten Millbrook, that team just so happens to be Kettle Run who beat them in the regular season and second round of the playoffs last year. I'd expect the Pioneers to come into this one with a little extra motivation and view the Cougars as a hurdle that must be cleared to take the next step as a program.

#4 Mountain View (4-0) at #7 Riverbend (2-2)

The Riverbend Bears have seen both the good and ugly side of lopsided contests so far this season. Dominating both Chancellor and Forest Park in their first 2 games, and then being handled by 2 of the best teams in the state in King George and Highland Springs. And now the Bears will get to begin district play against Mountain View hoping to take the lessons learned from their first 4 games and carry it with them through the rest of the season. For the Bears the name of the game is the same it's been the last 3 seasons, ball control and stingy defense. Tanner Triplett will need support from his Offensive Line to his talented weapons Amir Mateo and talented Freshman Camden Simmons. (RB) JoJo Thomas has been a workhouse so far this season and will look to get it going early tonight. Defensively the Bears are led by stout defensive playmakers like (DL) Jayvion Cervantes and (DL) Joshua Broussard. How motivated will this Bears team be off of 2 tough losses. The Wildcats come into this one 4-0 and while the record up to this point isn't a complete surprise maybe the margins they've been winning by is. By now we know the names that graduated last spring mostly on the offensive side of the ball. Yet the Wildcats have managed to continue to light up the scoreboard on game nights averaging well over 40 points per game. (QB) Aaron Barber has done a great job distributing to his weapons, that were unknown to many of us before this season. Wide Receivers like Daniel Crosby and Robert Winters have been big in aiding the Senior QBs transition into starter this season. Sophomore (RB) Torie Martin continues his successful season and is still a top 3 rusher statistically in the area. Defensively the Wildcats have absolutely dominated the first half of each game only giving up one touchdown in 4 games. This game has huge Commonwealth District implications that will likely play a role later on not just in district rankings, but also in playoff Power Points in each teams respective region
