Week 4 540 Preview

Week 4 is arriving a tad early again many of our friends to the North won't have school tomorrow so we will get another round of THURSDAY NIGHT LIGHTS... For most of our teams, many will still play tomorrow. So which games will be the best? Glad you asked! Let's get right into it.

       INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

   #2 Colonial Forge (3-0) at Patriot (1-1)

These two teams have gone head to head 4 times before, last season in the playoffs was the first time that Patriot was able to beat the Eagles. Through 3 games Colonial Forge has already established their identity and what they want to do. They want to get the ball downhill in the hands of their running backs, more specifically in the hands of Josiah Bryson, and Jaevyen Peterson. Oh and of course Ethen Horne can make things happen on the plays that put him at Center. They face a Patriot team that is replacing several big playmakers that contributed to their win over the Eagles last November. Names like Gabe Bigbee, Sam Fernandez, and Cole Surber are no more. But make no mistake names like (RB) Jackson McCarter and (OL) Alaric Aherns are still around. Both of these teams will make an honest effort to keep the ball on the ground though the Pioneers have been more willing to pass the ball in their RPO game. Forge hasn't been forced to pass the ball through 3 games but I'd expect Patriot to be better in that aspect than Forge's first 3 opponents. This is a non-district match-up but it will mean a lot when it comes to regional playoff seeding.

#5 Eastern View (2-0) at #7 Brooke Point (2-1)

At the start of last season I had the match-up between these 2 circled as an interesting match-up. But then Brooke Point started the year 0-3 so it fell off our radar. Then Brooke Point (without their starting QB) dominated Eastern View at their place 28-6. I'm sure Eastern View players haven't forgotten that and will come into this game a little more aware of what the Black Hawks are capable of. Coles has been as good as expected, he's rushed for 6 Touchdowns already through 3 games. One big difference maker between this years Brooke Point and last years has to be the confidence that (QB) Gabriel Dombek is playing with as he's thrown for the second most amount of yards in the area through 3 games. For Eastern View it will be about how they respond to adversity this season. The Cyclones were not even remotely tested in their first 2 contests we expect that to change tonight. In case you forgot, one of the best LBs in the nation Brett Clatterbaugh is still on this roster and will be looking to avenge a surprising loss that probably wound up costing the Cyclones a home playoff game last season. Keeping young (QB) Aaron Hull will be crucial for the Cyclones in this match-up between 2 teams hoping to make some noise this season.
