2. Colonial Forge Eagles

Not many teams in the 540 command as much respect as the Colonial Forge football program. But these last 3 seasons have not really lived up to the expectations that are common at "Championville". However, this group did manage to not only make the playoffs but upset the undefeated Battlefield at their house last season. The Eagles did lose talent, D-1 (RB) Donte Hawthorne and the speedy (WR) Colby Kynard come to mind. Talented Safety Matt Holland also left this offseason as a transfer to St. Michaels. But the Eagles have plenty of returning contributors and some extra outside help as well.

Offensively the Eagles are looking to finally get stability at QB after 3 seasons of dealing with injuries and inconsistency at the position. Eli Taylor has the talent to be as good as any QB in the 540 but injuries sidelined him for several games in 2022. The arrival of Woodbridge transfer (WR) Ethan Horne will help the Junior QB have a go to target on crucial downs. He will also be behind a physical Oline that is led by Jake Mangano (Junior) and Aaron Goshorn (Senior). That Oline also plans to open up holes for an experienced stable of RBs that all took significant carries in 2022, Josiah Bryson, Ethan Lynch and Jaevyen Peterson will all look to rack up chunks of yards behind their Line.

Defensively the Eagles will play a few guys both ways, guys like (DL) Mangano, (DB) Horne, (LB) Bryson and (LB) Peterson. They will also have young (DL) Anton Samuels who is only a sophomore but has great strength and explosiveness for his age. Guys, this unit is coached by Hall of Fame coach Bill Brown so you know there won't be many times the Eagles are out of position are showing a lack of effort... And their pretty talented too don't expect many points to be scored against this unit.

The schedule for Colonial Forge significantly less difficult than what it was a season ago and I'm sure the Eagles will hope to reap the rewards of that with a better seeding at the end of this season. Ethan Horne will get an immediate chance to stick it to his former team as the Eagles will host Woodbridge on Friday night. Then a trip to Alexendria City and a home match-up against Potomac before they get a shot at revenge against Patriot the team that eliminated them in Round 2 of the Playoffs. Then of course it's the Commonwealth district foes in a year that will be hard to predict.

Record Projection: 9-1
