Week 11 Top 8

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

Listen we would love to include as many teams as we could in our top teams list however at the moment the 540 doesn't have enough teams playing at a high level to create a top ten this week. All of the teams that are not on this list this week are either coming off a loss or are several games under .500. So in our last regular season top teams, we are only running with 8 instead of 10... And now let's get to the list.

THE TOP EIGHT

8. Orange County Hornets (7-2)

A good win over Goochland on Friday lands the Hornets at number 8 on our list and more importantly the Hornets sit as the 4 seed in the 4D region. They'll get another tough test against Western Albemarle this Friday but if they can pass it it'll mean a home playoff game next week.

7.  Eastern View Cyclones (8-2)

Most times when you win 8 games you are almost guaranteed a home playoff game. However, that will likely not be the case for this Eastern View team who has the fortune of being in one of the tougher regions in the state. Regardless, this is not a team that you want to see in the first 2 rounds. This is a well coached team that has playmakers on both sides of the ball. Defensively the most obvious name is Brett Clatterbaugh but he is far from the only one. Landon Taylor (LB) and Brayden Walker (DL) are also 2 solid players in their front 7 that can make life difficult for an offense. Speaking of offense D'Myo Hunter is the leader of an offense that in my opinion improves on a week to week basis. Jayden Williams is a hard runner to bring down out of the backfield and Hunter has plenty of solid weapons to throw it to including players like Kevin Berg (WR) and Xavier Carr (WR). The Cyclones are overall a sneaky threat to the powerhouses in region 4B.

6. Mountain View Wildcats (8-1)

The Wildcats had another convincing win, but similar to their game against Forge they had a lot of penalties that held them back. They'll need to find a way to clean it up if they hope to earn a share of the district title this Friday.

5. Colonial Forge (5-4)

Forge's defense did just enough Friday night to hold on and get them the victory over a talented Brooke Point team. If they can win Friday night they have a shot at claiming a share of the district championship, but will need Mountain View to beat Riverbend.

4. Kettle Run Cougars (9-0)

The Cougars are just one win away from an undefeated season. Something that hasn't been done there since 2011. They continue to have one of the most fun offenses in the area and though their defense is not perfect, they make the right plays at the right time to close out opponents. 10-0 is on the horizon, can this team make it as far as the 11' team? Further? the great thing is we will find out soon enough.

3. Riverbend Bears (8-1)

The Bears are guaranteed at least a share of the Commonwealth district after Friday's shutout victory over the Stafford Indians. But I'm positive the Bears are NOT ok with just having a share... They want it to themselves, in order for that to happen they'll need to beat Mountain View at their place on Senior night.

2. Louisa Lions (9-0)

Once again the Lions were given a test and once again they passed that test with flying colors. The Lions dominated the Patriots offensively putting up nearly 70 points in the victory and reclaiming the Jefferson district title. The Lions will take on Goochland this Friday.

1. King George Foxes (8-0)

The Foxes had a less dominant performance than normal Friday night. As a matter of fact the Knights of Spotsylvania put up the most points (14) that has been scored on KG so far this season. But the Foxes still won by 20 and their was no doubt who the better team was. We still see the Foxes as the best team in the area and on Friday night they'll get another shot to prove that before the playoffs begin.
