Week 9 Top Ten

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Liberty Eagles (3-4)

For the first time in 540 Athletes history... WELCOME to the Top 10 Liberty!! The Eagles have had to grind to get to this point after a tough 0-3 start with losses to very good teams (Brentsville, Eastern View and Mountain View) the Eagles are 3-1 in their last 4 games the one loss? To undefeated Kettle Run it appears the tough schedule is beginning to payoff for the Eagles however, their offense has looked explosive as of late, if they can improve defensively this team will be a tough out down the stretch.

9. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (3-4)

THIS is the Brooke Point team I expected to see at the beginning of the year. How this team lost to Riverside and Potomac is an absolute mystery to me. The Black-Hawks and Touchdown machine Daniel Coles are rolling. Dombrek is getting better every game at distributing the ball to his playmakers on offense. This team is getting better every week but there is still work to do if they hope to be a playoff team due to their slow start.

8. Orange County Hornets (5-1)

Orange with a great bounce back win over Fluvanna. They won't have any time to feel good about it however, their rescheduled match-up takes place tomorrow against 5-1 Albemarle

7.  Eastern View Cyclones (7-1)

Is their an offense hotter than the Cyclones at the moment? Since their 28-6 loss at the hands of Brooke Point the Cyclones are averaging 53 points per game. Their showdown this Friday against King George will likely decide the Battlefield District, it'll be their toughest match-up to this point in their schedule they'll need to keep rolling offensively if they hope to take down the visiting powerhouse Foxes.

6. Mountain View Wildcats (6-1)

In a game where they outgained their opponent 344 yards to 159 and led up until the 3 minute mark the Wildcats were upset by what is arguably their biggest rival. Absolutely brutal, what is more brutal is the fact that Mountain View won't have time to feel sorry for themselves their last 3 games include Red Hot Brooke Point, another huge rival North Stafford (off a Bye) and fellow Top 10 foe Riverbend. This friday will tell us a lot about how much of a contender the Wildcats truly are

5. Riverbend Bears (6-1)

The Bears schedule in these last 3 games are no joke, but they come out of the bye feeling as confident as any team in the area. If they can "upset" a scrappy Colonial Forge team this Friday they will control their own destiny to winning the Commonwealth District.

4. Kettle Run Cougars (8-0)

No one lights up a scoreboard quite like the Cougars do averaging 44 points per game. While the defense may be leaving some things to be desired if Abram Chumley keeps performing at the level he has these past few weeks, Handley and Sherando will be in for some tough weekends over the next few weeks.

3. Colonial Forge Eagles (4-3)

Finding a way to win is always the most important thing. The Eagles after heartbreaking losses to Tuscarora and Stone Bridge and an underwhelming performance against Highland Springs, finally broke through to beat one of the states most talented teams. It was certainly not easy and it took every bit of effort to accomplish it and even then it almost wasn't enough but now the Eagles control their own destiny in the district. We said that this could be the best team in the district but their record might not indicate it, they sit at 4-3 but it is clear not many teams want to face this Eagles squad.

2. Louisa Lions (8-0)

Louisa continues to make short work of their opponents. This time they dominate Western Albemarle 56-0. They will get a bye before getting an opportunity to get revenge on an Albemarle team that beat them a season ago and won the Jefferson district title.

1. King George Foxes (6-0)

The Foxes reclaim the top spot in the area to some they always belonged here. However, this team hasn't truly been tested since Week 1. That will change Friday night when they hit the road and travel to Culpeper to take on Eastern View in what has potential to be the game of the week.
