Week 8 Top 10

isclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (2-4)

Brooke Point is likely the hardest team to figure out in the area. They have locked in 2 wins against teams that are or have been in our Top 10. Not only that but they have won convincingly. But on the other hand they have 2 brutal losses to Riverside and Potomac. 2 teams who's record is a combined 3-10. Perhaps high early expectations derailed their start? Only the players and coaches at BP know. What I do know is what I said about this team in the pre-season. This team has REAL playmakers on it and they showed it last Thursday against a much improved Stafford team. Players like Daniel Coles and Dante Terrell were simply to good to be contained all game. The defense made the needed stops at the right time and now they are back in our top 10. 4 more games remain, if they want to be playing past the first week in November they'll need to be more like the team we saw in their last 3 games (2-1) rather than the first 3 games (0-3)

9. Orange County Hornets (4-1)

Good news and bad news for the Hornets over the past 7 days. The bad news is the Hornets were dominated by Louisa 49-7 in their first real test of the year. The good news is they will get an opportunity at a big win on Tuesday against Albemarle a contest that was rescheduled after it was originally ruled a no contest.

8. Courtland Cougars (3-3)

3 straight wins for the Cougars and 3-0 in the Battlefield district. With a defense that looks like it is getting better every week. This is a team that will have a chance to compete for the District title in the last 2 weeks of the season. I'm sure their staff will make sure the team takes it one week at a time.

7.  Eastern View Cyclones (6-1)

Another dominant 50 point win for the Cyclones helps them move up on our list. Their schedule increases in difficulty over the last 3 weeks of the regular season.

6. Colonial Forge Eagles (3-3)

Not really a flashy win but the Eagles were never truly threatened by rival North Stafford. Huge month of football ahead for the Eagles. They finish their schedule with Mountain View, Riverbend, Brooke Point and then Ponax. How they finish this stretch will determine a lot when it comes to their seeding in the playoffs.

5. Riverbend Bears (6-1)

The Bears have looked as good as just about anyone since their loss to Freedom week 2. If you look at the games they have played since. There isn't anything that jumps out at you but when you watch this team it is very clear how well coached and physical this team is. Their last 3 games are certainly no cupcakes however and they will need to keep being tough in order to have their best finish in school history at 9-1.

4. Kettle Run Cougars (7-0)

The Cougars are once again the Kings of Fauquier county after dominating the Fauquier 44-14 the Cougars will face a pretty challenging stretch to end their regular season.

3. Louisa Lions (7-0)

The Lions rose to the challenge against a team the was SUPPOSED to give them a test. A dominant 49-7 victory over the Hornets has the Lions riding high at 7-0. This uber talented Louisa team will have a couple of more tests to pass before the playoffs begin.

2. King George Foxes (5-0)

Speaking of passing tests, How about having to play 2 games in 5 days and winning both games by 40+? The explosive potential of the Foxes offense is well documented. However I have always felt the defense is the scariest part of this Foxes team. To this point they have only given up 6 PPG. I wouldn't expect that number to increase this week.

1. Mountain View Wildcats (6-0)

A well timed bye for the Wildcats, and now they get a road trip with in-county rival Colonial Forge. Arguably the first real test this season for this talented Mountain View squad.
