Week 10 Top 10

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Courtland Cougars (4-4)

Courtland gets back to .500 after taking down Culpeper 26-8. The chance for a Battlefield championship is still alive, but they'll need to upset both Eastern View and King George to make it happen

9. Brooke Point Black-Hawks (3-5)

Brooke Point was able to keep it tight in the first half as the underdog on Senior night. But in the end it wasn't enough. Their playoff chances took a huge hit however the dream is not completely dead. Due to the low quality of wins for [Current] 8 seed Independence (Loudoun County) the Black Hawks could have a chance at a playoff spot if they win out and Independence loses out, neither one of these scenarios are out of the realm of possibility.

8. Orange County Hornets (6-2)

Hard to say how much of a real playoff threat the Hornets are. In their 2 toughest games they've been blown out by Louisa and Albemarle, 49-7 and 55-14 respectively. However it's hard to say a 6-2 team isn't talented. If they can hold on to the 4 seed in the 4D playoff standings they have a chance to make things interesting.

7.  Eastern View Cyclones (7-2)

The Cyclones didn't win, but I believe they showed they can compete with any team in this area. Being down 23-0 on the road against Number 1 powerhouse KG is a position many teams would accept their fate and proceed to get blown out the rest of the way. But these Cyclones showed push back no team has given to KG since week 1. I believe both teams got better Friday night, and if the 4B standings stay the way they are currently the Cyclones could get another shot at the Foxes

6. Mountain View Wildcats (7-1)

Mountain View shook off a slow start last Friday for a convincing 32-7 win over what was a red hot Brooke Point team. They'll get North Stafford this Friday before facing Riverbend in a game in which SHOULD determine if they can get a share of the district title.

5. Colonial Forge (4-4)

Not having your starting QB is tough when your going up against a team like Riverbend. The Bears have made it tough sledding for the Eagles lately beating them 3 years in a row and shutting them out back to back seasons. However, if the Eagles and Mountain View can both win out they will get a share off the Commonwealth district title.

4. Kettle Run Cougars (9-0)

The Cougars are just one win away from an undefeated season. Something that hasn't been done there since 2011. They continue to have one of the most fun offenses in the area and though their defense is not perfect, they make the right plays at the right time to close out opponents. 10-0 is on the horizon, can this team make it as far as the 11' team? Further? the great thing is we will find out soon enough.

3. Riverbend Bears (7-1)

Riverbend has done something only 2 teams in this area has done and that is beat Forge 3 seasons in a row (Massaponax 2011-14, North Stafford 2003-2005). And on Friday night they did it in dominant fashion in a 29-0 victory. Riverbend has responded just about as well as any team could after a 74-0 loss rattling off 6 straight Ws and sit atop the Commonwealth district standings all alone. They'll take on Stafford this Friday before a showdown with Mountain View next week.

2. Louisa Lions (8-0)

Louisa comes off their bye and they will immediately take on the reigning defending Jefferson district champion Albemarle Patriots. I know reading those words still bother those Louisa players who were on the team last year as Albemarle stifled the Louisa offense in route to a 23-7 win and a Jefferson district championship. And this year's Albemarle team is just as good if not better than last years team. The Lions probably feel a little more confident with their show stopping freshmen Savion Hiter and Dyzier Carter, those 2 along with their experienced returning starters look to reclaim what they feel is theirs in a game that is sure to be at least one of our Games of the week

1. King George Foxes (7-0)

The Foxes jumped out in front of the Cyclones Friday night, and they were able to hold on for their biggest win in nearly 2 months. The defense continues to be the most underrated part of this team as they held an offense that was averaging 53 PPG in their last 4 to just 13 points. They take on an up and down Spotsy team before playing 2 games in one week next week.
