Week 6 has arrived!! I expect there to be some sloppy play in the 540 today as the remnants of Hurricane Ian come roaring up the east coast today. Most games have been moved up one hour to try and get ahead of the imminent downpour

       INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

#6 Riverbend (4-1) at #10 Brooke Point (1-3)

Aside from their ugly week 2 loss against one of the states best, Riverbend has been as dominant as just about any team in the area. No there hasn't been any 50 or 60 point outings, but this team truly isn't built to do that. The Bears are built to play physical in your face football and control the game for 4 quarters. Tonight they face a Brooke Point team that has been feeling good since their somewhat surprising 28-6 win over Eastern View 2 weeks ago. However, in the Pre-Season that result wouldn't have been surprising at all, the Black Hawks were a Top 5 team. However, an unexpected dreadful 0-3 start saw them quickly fall from the rankings. But after their Eastern View win and losses by other teams in the area Brooke Point has risen back to the top 10. If the Black-Hawks are sticking with Daniel Coles at QB it presents a creative challenge not just for Riverbend but for the entire Commonwealth District.

Highland Springs (5-0) at #5 Colonial Forge (2-2)  Postponed!!

As we stated in the Pre-Season Forge very well COULD be the best team in the 540 with the talent they have. But we also pointed out that by the end their record may not indicate that. After a tough loss 2 weeks ago against defending champion Stone Bridge. The Eagles looked a little... off in their 34-25 win over Stafford. We don't want to take anything from Stafford they played a great game. But their certainly seemed to be a little bit of a hangover from how much effort was poured into their Stone Bridge match-up. Tonight the difficulty bar will be raised again. The 5-0 Highland Springs Springers will be coming to town, and rain or not they'll be bringing a large following with them. This is a Springer team that traveled to Martinsburg, WV to face West Virginia powerhouse Martinsburg and beat them 34-3. They traveled to North Carolina week one and beat North Carolina Powerhouse JC Chambers. Their roster also features multiple D-1 quality athletes as well as the reputation of one of the best football programs in the entire state of Virginia. Colonial Forge will need their best effort tonight.
