Week 3 Preview

Week 3 is here! Teams are starting to find their identity through 2 weeks, here is our preview for the action coming up tonight!

Where I was Right/Wrong

Right:

Last week I went 9-2 in my picks. Pushing my picks this season to 20-2. Not a bad start.

Wrong:

Yeah man, Riverbend vs Freedom was certainly NOT an intriguing match-up. The Eagles scored early and often rolling the Bears winning 74-0. Needless to say the Bears will hope to forget about that this week.

INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

#3 Louisa (2-0) at #6 Massaponax (1-0)

If last week's game between KG and Ponax wouldn't have been canceled we would know a lot more about how good this match-up could be. Regardless I'm willing to bet this game will be a fun one. Massaponax comes in 1-0 after dominating county rival Chancellor 2 weeks ago. As for Louisa they've looked as dominant as you can in your first 2 weeks of the season. Absolutely rolling past Hugenot and Courtland. Both teams have a unique offensive style that presents a test for defenses. For Ponax it will be about staying disciplined and composed against a Senior laden Louisa squad led by game changers like Landon Wilson and Qwenton Spellman, as the Lions look to pass their first big test.

Prediction: Louisa 28 Massaponax 20

Brooke Point (0-2) at Riverside (0-2)

Time to see how real this Black-Hawk team is. Brooke Point began the season in our Pre-Season top 5. The first time appearing in our top 5 since we started ranking teams. There's no doubt that Freedom was as rigorous as a first test as you can get. However, I don't think many in the program saw themselves losing to Potomac. The team they travel to face tonight is all the way in Loudoun County. The Riverside Rams also come in tonight's game 0-2 with losses to Tuscarora (27-7) and Independence (28-18). Both losses show that this Rams team has greatly improved since the last time these teams played a season ago when Brooke Point put up 63 points. But if this is truly the team they expect to be (contenders in the Commonwealth district). They will need to start regaining their confidence on the road tonight.

Prediction: Brooke Point 28 Riverside 17

 UPSET ALERT

#4 Eastern View (2-0) at #10 Stafford (2-0)

Hopefully this game will be a fun one. On one side you have an Eastern View team that has potential to play with just about anyone in the 540, and last week they survived a scare on the road against a scrappy Liberty squad. This week they face a Stafford Indians team looking to show that they're not just a nice story, rather a team to be reckoned with in the 540. Both teams come in 2-0 but it's clear Eastern View is seen as the favorites here even if it is on the road. Last week the Cyclones were forced to play without Brett Clatterbaugh. We will see if he is available tonight. If not it may be another dog fight with a team that is still learning to win.
