Week 2 Preview

Week 2 is here! We learned a lot about some of our teams while some question marks remain for others. This weeks preview is a day early thanks to Labor Day moving some games up to Thursday while others will take place on Friday as usual.

Where I was Right/Wrong

Right:

Last week I went a PERFECT 10-0 in my picks, I also correctly picked the potential upset of the week so we'll just call that 11-0 ;).

Wrong:

I definitely was wrong about how close BP vs Freedom would be. I mean to be fair it's not like I thought it'd be a down to the wire game. I picked Freedom by 17, but I thought BP would put up a much better fight than they did a season ago... Not the case Brooke Point was just as over matched as they were a season ago getting dominated 62-3.

INTRIGUING MATCH-UPS

#4 Colonial Forge (0-0) at Tuscarora (1-0)

Is Colonial Forge "back"? After 2 seasons playing under their normal standard many (including me) believe the Eagles have potential to be one of the areas best again. But as I stated in their season preview that may very well be true, however the schedule they play is no joke and it starts tonight in Leesburg. One of the more successful programs in Loudoun County Tuscarora is known for being physical both offensively and defensively. This is going to be a huge test to see how tough this Eagles team is both squads have large offensive and defensive lines and will probably cancel each other out this one will likely be determined by who can make the biggest plays

Prediction: Colonial Forge 24 Tuscarora 20

#3 Riverbend (1-0) at Freedom (1-0)

Friday

Riverbend is arguably one of the best teams in the 540. They're a physical team and are extremely well coached. However, they've had their struggles with powers that they aren't extremely familiar with. Examples that come to mind include last season's 58-3 loss at Stone Bridge and last seasons 41-7 week 2 loss to this Freedom team. This years Freedom squad has not shown any signs of stepping back blowing through Brooke Point almost a week ago. For the Bears it will be about keeping Freedom's great athletes in front of them and containing Sophomore RB Jeffrey Overton who ran for 234 yards last Friday

Prediction: Riverbend 13 Freedom 31

#7 Massaponax (1-0) at #1 King George (1-0)

Friday

Yeah this should be fun. Both teams are coming off solid wins a week ago. Massaponax dominated in-county opponent Chancellor 38-0 while King George hit the road to Williamsburg and beat a solid Lafayette team by 2 scores. For King George this game is about proving just how legit they are (If they haven't proved it already).  For Ponax it's about putting the 540 back on notice (again) and proving that this is not a rebuilding year. I'll be very interested in how well Ponax is able to slow down KG's attack.
