Week 3 Top 10 Rankings

Week 3 told us a lot about the teams in the Fredericksburg area (Those that were able to play anyway.) And one thing that is starting to be clear is the fact there could be a lot of parity this season last year Massaponax and King George were juggernauts in their respective classes and were a step above their competition. And hey considering the fact that between those 2 teams only 6 Quarters have been played it is not entirely impossible for that to be true again. But so far it appears almost all the teams on the list this week could be number at some point this season.

Disclaimer: This is a list for PUBLIC school teams in the area not private that way we avoid as many Strength of Schedule debates as possible.

THE TOP TEN

10. Louisa Lions (2-1)

It was an unusual Friday night in September for the Lions. For the first time in nearly 5 years Louisa was defeated in a regular season game. And the game was not relatively close either. But the Lions stay in our top 10 for 2 reasons 1. King George is for real (again) and 2. It is probably a mistake to assume that this team and staff won't go straight to work on making the needed improvements and look more polished the rest of the season. Friday nights loss can now serve as a good reminder for this team that even the Lion can bleed.

9. Eastern View Cyclones (2-0)

The Cyclones overcame a mistake riddled night and closed a victory in their second game of the year over Stafford. This team is intriguing to watch as Huseby is starting to get more comfortable this season at QB. They will need to button up their mistakes quickly however as the high scoring surging Black Hawks are next on the schedule.

8. Orange Fighting Hornets (3-0)

Guys.... Orange is a good football team. And I don't mean that in a backhanded "good for Orange" kind of way. This county has waited a while for a team that is as buttoned up as this one and that can put up as many points as they can. And they should feel encouraged on their outlook the rest of the way as well outside of Louisa and Goochland there should not be many threats to to this team the rest of the way.

7. Kettle Run Cougars (2-1)

Yes we are fully aware that we have a 2-1 team over 2 undefeated teams in our rankings but hear us out. Friday night was a very impressive victory for the boys from Nokesville. Brentsville has a solid roster of talent that had controlled their first 2 games, and a great staff with a good number of those coaches coming from Patriot HS a western PWC contender. And the Cougars controlled the game winning by 3 TDs. They got it done on the ground, in the air and on defense. As we said at the beginning of the season this team has weapons that can take them a long way don't let their season opening 3 point loss to now 3-0 Heritage spoil you on this teams potential.

6. North Stafford Wolverines (2-0)

Very few teams in the state have had a wackier start than North Stafford. Their first game takes 11 days to complete. Their second takes place at 10 AM on a Friday. Their third is cancelled, and now their fourth is moved from an away game to a home game. One thing has been consistent for the Wolverines however, their suffocating defense. While the Offense has struggled to truly get it going the way they may have hoped so far this season the defense is a smothering as ever only surrendering 6 points so far this season (the other 7 points scored vs North was a pick 6). If we can see the offense begin to improve it may be hard for anyone to beat this North team.

5. Massaponax Panthers (0-0)

If North Stafford has had the wackiest start Ponax has had the unluckiest. All 3 of their first 3 games have been cancelled because of Covid the first two because of outbreaks in their opponents program, the last because of an outbreak in their own. Keep those fingers crossed so far it is looking that things are a go this Friday night against Woodbridge which should serve as a warmup before they have to jump in to district play.

4. Riverbend Bears (2-1)

"Cancel the [Upset] alert." Is what we were tweeted early Saturday morning after the Bears set the scoreboard ablaze at Courtland friday night. Riverbend seemed to have plenty of giddyup and motivation after last Friday when they were on the other side of a beatdown. We know the talent of this team and Friday night it was on full display I would not expect the Bears to leave the top 5 anytime soon.

3. Colonial Forge Eagles (1-1)

Quite frankly the Eagles are our favorite team this week simply for making us look good and winning by 17 like we predicted. On a serious note I sincerely hope no one thinks that because this team struggled against a Unity Reed team with a 5 Star Linebacker that is currently 3-0 that they aren't... you know... Colonial Forge. The Eagles have speed all over the field, size, and are to control most of their games this year on the ground and in the trenches the schedule gets a lot more difficult than West Potomac though, Stone Bridge and Highland Springs are lurking on the horizon.

2. King George Foxes (1-0)

We try our best to not be prisoners of the moment. And to be fair we don't think that we are. You dominate a team that cruised in their first 2 games and hasn't lost a regular season game in almost 5 years, you're going to get rewarded and respect. And yes they are 1-0 but remember that they did in fact play 2 quarters vs defending Class 3 champion Lafayette and that game is still technically in a 14-14 tie. The Foxes have the best 2 WRs in the Battlefield and certainly one of the best 2 WRs in the whole area. Not to mention that this is BETTER running team than they were last season. Look out man it is time to stop being surprised by the Foxes they are here to stay.

1. Mountain View Wildcats (3-0)

Wildcats QB Jackson Sigler said that MV's win on Friday Night was an ugly one.... The Wildcats won by 23. A lot of teams wish they could win a "ugly" game much less win it by nearly 4 scores. But that just shows the expectations that this Mountain View program has for itself now. And it should after limping through the first 3 quarters offensively the Wildcats exploded for 21 points in the fourth to put away Liberty. Showing their ability to put up points in a hurry Mountain View is a very good team with a chance to be great expect this team to start to be able to get it rolling soon.
