Week 3 Preview

It's been a wild first two weeks. Cancellations postponements, game replacements, and it has only been 2 weeks. This page has been affected by the start as well as it has delayed the kind of coverage we plan on bringing you this season. But with many teams recovering from Covid and the forecast tonight looking like we'll be free of lightning THIS is looking like the closest thing to a normal Friday night in fall we've had since 2019. In this we will go over our locks of the week, most intriguing match-ups and teams on upset alert.

Locks of the week

In future weeks, this is the part of the article that is likely to anger people, being told that you don't have a chance on a Friday night can feel pretty insulting, However, this section is really just to say which game looks like a mismatch on paper, we aren't making any predictions

This week we do not have any locks, most of these games should be interesting so come out and watch!

Intriguing Games

West Potomac at #2 Colonial Forge:

Last week we saw something we rarely see in a Colonial Forge game. The Eagles were dominated physically. Offensively Forge had zero answers for Unity Reed as their offense was shut out in a 22-7 loss. Now they face a 2-0 West Potomac team that has outscored their first 2 opponents 58-7. But Colonial Forge is not Mclean or Wakefield. This will certainly be the hardest game to this point for the Wolverines. What makes this an interesting game is the fact that even though on paper Colonial Forge should be the better team, West Potomac is coming into this game with confidence and good amount of athletes to make things interesting against the Eagles. This should be a fun one but we ranked the Eagles number 1 in the preseason for a reason.

#3 King George at #7 Louisa:

As far as storylines go this one has plenty. First of all, this game is only happening because Massaponax had to back out of their game with Louisa due to a Covid outbreak in their football program. The most obvious one is the fact that this is rematch from the playoff matchup these two had this past spring. Where King George won 31-15 in a game that began a special run for the Foxes. As we have stated in their preseason summary however this team has several parts gone from that team. However in their week 1 match up that never finished King George looked good and very competitive against the defending Class 3 State Champions Lafayette playing them to a 14-14 tie before spells of lightning delayed that game twice. On the other side is one of this areas most consistent programs it's been 1792 days since the Lions have lost a regular season game and Coach Patrick has the team running like a well oiled machine once again as the Lions have cruised in their first 2 games outscoring Hugenot and Courtland 75-20. The Foxes are a talented team, but they have not played a full game this season, this fact coupled with having to play Louisa on short notice will make tonight's game a hard one for the Foxes.

Prediction: Louisa 27 King George 20

Upset Alert

#5 Riverbend at Courtland

Let me preface this by saying I am not saying Courtland will win this game. But as good as I think Riverbend is it can be very deflating for a team to lose 41-7 at home and then turn around and play a physical minded team like their in county foe Courtland. If the Bears want to win this game they'll have to fix their snapping issues as fumbles were extremely costly for the Bears on both offense and special teams. If Courtland truly plans to turn around their season with an upset however, they must find a way to slow the Bears down as the Cougars have struggled defensively giving up 40+ in both of their games to start the year. JC Hall always has his team fired up and ready to go if the Bears aren't they could see their season get off to a rocky 1-2 start.
